The Siya crew has it on good authority that a surprise package has been linked with the vacant Chippa United Technical Director job.
Following the club’s decision to make a U-turn on the appointment of Belgian Luc Eymael, the Siya crew has been reliably informed that former Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba has been linked with the job.
According to well-placed Siya sources, there have been talks between the veteran coach’s camp and the Chilli Boys about Mashaba possibly taking over in Port Elizabeth.
“Shakes Mashaba and his team are busy engaging Chippa United to give the former Bafana Bafana coach the opportunity to work with Chippa,” the source informed the crew.
The last time Mashaba was involved at club level was back in 2019, when he was the coach of GladAfrica Championship side, Witbank Spurs.
Chippa were prevented from hiring Eymael for the second time this season, following pressure from the club’s stakeholders to retract his recent appointment as the club’s Technical Director.
The club was previously foiled in their attempts to appoint Eymael as the club’s coach, following SAFA’s decision to ban the 61-year-old from working in the country, after his controversial comments made in Tanzania, in which he referred to Young Africans SC’s supporters as ‘dogs and monkeys.’
