Benni McCarthy will be allowed a technical team of his choice at AmaZulu, and it’s understood he has already identified who he wants to work with.
The former Cape Town City coach and all-time Bafana Bafana top goalscorer was on Monday unveiled at Usuthu and watched them get beaten 2-0 by rivals Golden Arrows in a DStv Premiership clash two days later.
McCarthy sat in the stands next to Siyabonga ‘Bhele’ Nomvethe, and the Siya crew has established that the latter is expected to be roped in as part of the technical team.
It’s likely that Allan Freese, who joined AmaZulu at the beginning of the season as an assistant coach to Ayanda ‘Cobra’ Dlamini, will also vacate the post.
Dlamini stepped down a week before McCarthy’s appointment and has been redeployed to the youth structures – he will also be working on his coaching badges.
The Siya crew reported on December 2 that Moeneeb Josephs, who also shared the dressing room with McCarthy at Bafana and Orlando Pirates, would make a sensational return to AmaZulu to work alongside the new coach.
Josephs was a player-coach last season and involved in helping Usuthu avoid relegation, results which earned Dlamini a permanent contract under the previous leadership.
But ‘Slim Kat’ surprisingly left the club, though he is now thought to be on his way back to become McCarthy’s assistant alongside Nomvethe. They have both played for AmaZulu.
