Former Amakhosi Coach Joins City Race

Former Kaizer Chiefs head coach, Ernst Middendorp, is believed to have joined the race to become Cape Town City head coach should Eric Tinkler leave the club.
It was reported by the Siya crew on Monday that Tinkler was the favourite to take over at SuperSport United for the 2017/18 campaign once Stuart Baxter has left for Bafana Bafana permanently, with the former defender having impressed for City this season.
The crew also reported that, if Tinkler does go, the likes of Muhsin Ertugral, Cavin Johnson, Roger de Sa and Luc Eymael were all in the running to take over at the reigning Telkom Knockout champions.
Now, though, there is another name to add to the list, with Middendorp thought to be interested in returning to South Africa after a spell away in Thailand.
The German is currently the technical director for Bangkok United but is thought to have made his way onto City’s list of potential candidates if they do have to prepare for life without Tinkler.
Middendorp has coached Chiefs, Maritzburg United, Golden Arrows, Chippa United and Bloemfontein Celtic in South Africa, and knows the country well.
