Egyptian Striker’s Future In Limbo As World Cup Approaches

Egyptian international, Amr Gamal is yet to make an appearance in Head Coach Gavin Hunt’s matchday squad following being linked with an exit in the January transfer window.

As reported by the Siya crew last month, Gamal, who is on loan at Wits from Al Ahly, was being linked with a move to SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates, this after falling out of favour at The Students.

However, with no interested suitors able to complete a deal for the player before the transfer window closed shut on January 31, the 26-year-old was set to see out the remaining month of his loan deal with the Braamfontein outfit.

Although, since then, the striker has not featured in any of the Clever Boys matchday squads, as sources indicated that he is still out of favour at the club, with Lehlohonolo Majoro since establishing himself as a first-choice striker.

With Gamal not getting in the needed value time at this point, it will decrease his chances at getting a call-up to represent his national team, Egypt, in the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Russia, set to take place in June this year.

Gamal’s stay with Wits will come to an end on June 30 this year and it remains to be seen whether the player will make a return to Hunt’s matchday squad during his final months at the club.
