After being deemed surplus to requirements under former Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt, some of the players who parted ways with Chippa United at the beginning of the season have been spotted with a new club.
Having joined Chippa prior to the start of the 2021/22 season as the club’s head coach, Hunt quicky made changes to the squad, which affected some of the players who had been with the team, including veteran midfielder Andile Mbenyane.
Mbenyane, 33, had been the longest-serving member of the Chilli Boys squad, having spent over a decade with the team since joining the club from Ajax Cape Town in 2009.
The attack-minded player has been spotted at BCM Stars, which is an Eastern Cape-based team that is campaigning in the ABC Motsepe League and is owned by Wanda Mbenguzana, who is part of the Chippa management.
Meanwhile, another player from the Chilli Boys who is with the third-tier outfit is Avela Cezu, who was also deemed surplus to requirements under Hunt.
“Andile Mbenyane and Avela Cezu are with BCM Stars. They went to the club after leaving Chippa United, although they might go back to the club again in future,” confirmed the source.
