Chiefs Miss Out As Keet Turns Them Down
Kaizer Chiefs have missed out on one of their transfer targets, with Darren Keet believed to have turned down a move to Naturena in favour of a switch overseas.
The Amakhosi are currently in the market for a new goalkeeper following a shoulder injury to Itumeleng Khune that will keep him out for the rest of the season and had earmarked his Bafana Bafana teammate as a potential addition.
Unfortunately for Chiefs though, Keet appears to have his mind set on leaving South Africa to pursue a future outside of the country going forward, and has no intention of leaving Bidvest Wits for another club in Mzansi – not in this transfer window or at the end of the season.
The 29-year-old spent five seasons in Belgium with KV Kortrijk before returning to Wits in 2016 and has already gotten his hands on every domestic trophy available in South Africa over the course of his two stints with the Clever Boys.
According to Siya sources, Chiefs did try to lure Keet – who will see his contract with Wits expire at the end of the season – to Soweto, however, were told that his intentions are to be plying his trade outside of the country once he leaves Braamfontein.
Chiefs, who have Khune, Virgil Vries, Bruce Bvuma and Brylon Petersen on their books, will now have to look elsewhere for a new shot-stopper if they still intend to bolster their goalkeeping department before the January transfer window closes.
