Chiefs To Finally Replace Yeye?
Kaizer Chiefs haven’t won a single piece of silverware since Reneilwe Letsholonyane’s exit from the club, but could they now have – finally – found his replacement?
‘Yeye’ became a club legend at Naturena during nearly a decade of service to the Amakhosi, winning everything there was to win in domestic football, securing his place as a fan favourite along the way. Since then they’ve struggled to replace him.
However, his time at Chiefs came to an end in 2016 when he opted to leave the club for SuperSport United, despite having played 30+ games in all of his final three campaigns with the Glamour Boys.
In his final season with the club, Chiefs had just a 25% win percentage when Letsholonyane started, winning 42.3% of the 26 matches in which he started, and the likes of George Maluleka, Keagan Buchanan and Hendrick Ekstein have been unable to replicate his level of performance in the creative role in the centre of the park.
With Andriamirado ‘Dax’ Andrianarimanana, though, that could be about to change. The Malagasy midfielder made a name for himself at the COSFA Cup recently, and appears to be in a similar mould to ‘Yeye’ when it comes to dictating the pace of the game and creating chances for his teammates.
While ‘Dax’ isn’t yet in the country – despite the Absa Premiership getting underway this weekend – Chiefs are working on getting him into the country as soon as possible, and he could be the missing piece that they’ve been looking for for the last two seasons.
