Coetzee Still A No Show, Is Sundowns Move Still Likely?
Rivaldo Coetzee has still not reported to training at Ajax Cape Town, with the player’s immediate future still unknown at this point.
The Urban Warriors have been preparing for the upcoming 2017/18 campaign since July 03, with Head Coach Stanley Menzo assessing a number of trialist at the Ikamva-based club.
Ajax is set to depart for Gauteng on Monday, where they will further their pre-season training, with the team expected to take part in a few friendly encounters.
However, at this point, it seems that Coetzee will not be travelling with the team, as he has still not shown up for training with the team currently in their third week of club duty. This according to Siya sources.
As reported in last week’s edition of Soccer Laduma, Orlando Pirates have joined Mamelodi Sundowns in the race to sign the defender, with the player’s agent, Mike Makaab, indicating that Coetzee’s camp was currently in talks with Ajax at the time, however, would not reveal anything further.
Siya sources have indicated that the player feels that he is not earning a fair salary and is looking to force a move away from Ikamva.
Coetzee still has two more years to run on his existing deal with Ajax and is obliged to report to training despite being unhappy with his situation. As revealed earlier this week, Ajax has fined the player for breaching the rules of his contract.
The club’s CEO, Ari Efstathiou, is currently out of the country and is set to return next week. It remains to be seen whether a decision on the immediate future of the Bafana Bafana international will be made in the coming days and whether a move to Sundowns is still on the cards despite the player’s current situation.
