Cape Town Spurs defender Rushwin Dortley had emerged as a target for both Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns - but the 19-year-old sensation could be lost to SA football all together after attracting serious European interest, the Siya crew has been informed.
As reported by the Siya crew, there was serious interest from Chiefs to secure his services, while Sundowns monitored the situation closely.
However, the latest news reaching the crew’s desk is that the dynamic left-footed centre-back is set to make his way to Europe in the coming weeks.
According to Siya sources in Cape Town, Dortley has attracted firm interest from an unnamed club within the Danish Superliga, where two South Africans in Gift Links and Luther Singh currently ply their trade.
The crew reached out to the player’s representative, Paul Mitchell, Managing Director of Siyavuma Sports Group, who confirmed that the teenage sensation is set to jet out of the country in hopes of forging a career abroad.
"Yes, Rushwin is going to Europe, we are just in the process of organising the necessary visa and logistical arrangements, which are ongoing. It’s a fantastic opportunity for him, there has been local and other international interest in him from other countries, but this is the one we want and have decided to go forward.
"He’s a player with great talent, big physical frame, who reads the game well with a technical elegance to his 1.9 metre frame. I’m sure if he goes into Europe now, the world can be his oyster. Europe has always been at the forefront of our minds for Rushwin and with our experience in these markets, we know the trajectory we wish to try and follow with his career path, we will work hard to try and facilitate this for him and his club, who we all know are a great producer of talent," Mitchell said.
Dortley’s outstanding performance for Spurs last season has seen him being included in coach David Notoane’s preliminary COSAFA Cup squad.
