Former Al Ahly assistant coach Cavin Johnson is understood to be leading the race to take over the vacant head coach role at Royal AM, the Siya crew has been informed.
Following the shock departure of John Maduka, who has subsequently taken over the head coach role at Maritzburg United, a number of names have been bandied about with regards to who would be leading the KwaZulu-Natal outfit in their next chapter.
Earlier this month, the Siya crew reported that Johnson, Gavin Hunt and Dan Malesela have been heavily touted with moves to Thwihli Thwahla.
But the Siya crew has established via reliable sources that Johnson is currently the leading candidate to land the job!
The 63-year-old has been unattached since unceremoniously parting ways with Pitso Mosimane and Al Ahly in October last year, following a successful spell in Cairo which was littered with trophies.
Since returning to the country, Johnson was also linked with both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, although nothing materialized.
In addition, the name of the former AmaZulu and Black Leopards coach was thrown into the ring in SuperSport United's seach for a permanent head coach.
It now remains to be seen whether the Royal owner Shauwn Mkhize decides to appoint the experienced Johnson as the club’s new head coach or if she takes a different approach in the coming weeks.
