The Siya crew has been informed that Cape Town City are close to completing a permanent deal for a striker who recently saw his loan stint at the club come to an end.
As reported in issue 1193 of Soccer Laduma, Fagrie Lakay, who saw his season-long loan stint with City expire at the end of the extended 2019/20 campaign, made his return to his parent club Bidvest Wits (now Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila) where a decision about his immediate future has since been made.
The Siya crew reported that the player had his contract with Wits terminated due to an alleged breach. Lakay had not agreed to a deal with TTM - who recently bought the top flight status of Wits, which subsequently meant that he is able to move on on a free.
City, who were assessing the player’s situation closely, is now on the verge of finalising a permanent deal for the 23-year-old.
The Mother City-based club recently parted ways with their number one marksman in Kermit Erasmus who signed a three-year deal with Mamelodi Sundowns and will be eager to tie down Lakay quickly, to avoid losing another key player in Jan Olde Riekerink’s set-up.
An announcement about Lakay’s signature is expected to be made in the coming days.
