As the number of former professional footballers making a name for themselves in the world of coaching after hanging their boots, the Siya crew has learnt that former Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Calvin Marlin is set to be appointed as the coach of a club in Cape Town.
Following his departure from Ajax Cape Town (now Cape Town Spurs), after he narrowly missed out on promotion to the top-flight at the end of last season, Marlin surfaced at Cape Town All Stars in November where he has been serving as goalkeeper coach.

With the Mother City outfit having recently parted ways with their head coach Dylan Deane, indications are that club management is considering appointing the former Bafana Bafana player as the new man in charge on a permanent basis.

According to sources, South African U17 women’s goalkeeper coach Mandla Hlatshwayo is likely to be appointed as Marlin’s replacement in training the Cape side’s keepers.
“Calvin Marlin is set to be appointed as the head coach of Cape Town All Stars. With him in charge, the club feel that he could help the team to move up the log and compete for a place in the play-offs like he did with his previous team,” said the source.
All Stars are 10th on the second tier league log with only four wins from 15 matches.
AmaZulu head coach Benni McCarthy, TS Galaxy assistant coach Shaun Bartlett and recently appointed Cape Town City assistant coach Aaron Mokoena, are some of the former Bafana stars who are now doing well in their coaching roles in Mzansi’s top-flight.
