Swallows FC have held crisis talks with Brandon Truter as the coach’s future hangs in the balance, the Siya crew understands.
Following their 3-0 defeat at home against SuperSport United at the weekend, it’s believed Truter and his technical team were called into a meeting to not only address that performance in isolation but the team’s form overall.
Despite a satisfactory start to the current season with a win in the MTN8 against Orlando Pirates and then a victory in their opening DStv Premiership clash when they hosted rookies Royal AM, the Dube Birds have hit a blip.
They are winless in their last four matches from all competitions, including the 3-0 thumping by SSU in their own backyard on Sunday.
Word reaching the Siya crew is that coach Truter is expected to be placed on “leave” and his assistant Simo Dladla is likely to take his place when they welcome Cape Town City in a league encounter on Friday at Dobsonville Stadium.
Attempts to get clarity or official comment from either Swallows chairman David Mogashoa or the coach’s agent, Basia Michaels, proved futile at the time of publishing, but it was expected, given the sensitivity of the matter.
Truter has brought stability to the Dube Birds over the last two seasons since being appointed by the club in September 2019 to help guide them from the trenches of the second tier to the Premiership for the first time in five years!
Even with an unwanted record-breaking 20 draws from 30 matches, Swallows still finished in sixth place during their maiden campaign back in the topflight after years of trying to fight their way to the elite league.
According to insiders, however, the manner in which the Dube Birds finished the previous season has always been a concern, and it was only natural that questions would be raised should Truter and his team go through a bad patch.
Swallows won only one game in their final 10 last season, with the Siya crew reporting during that poor spell that management were contemplating sacking the coach.
He was, in the end, allowed to remain in charge with Dladla brought in at the start of the current season to be his second in command.
Will Dladla now officially take over?
The Siya crew has been led to believe he may be the one on the bench against CT City on Saturday at the Dobsonville Stadium.
