The Siya crew has it on good authority that the former Orlando Pirates defender, who has had several stints in charge of the Chilli Boys has been fired by his axe wielding boss Chippa Mpengesi following a string of poor results.
It would appear the last straw was Saturday afternoon’s mauling by Maritzburg United at the Harry Gwala Stadium in their DStv Premiership clash.
Maritzburg won 5-1, pushing Chippa to third from bottom on the log table.
Malesela returned to the Port Elizabeth outfit for yet another chapter in December last year when Mpengesi failed in his attempts to hire Luc Eymael, the Belgium mentor who had been fired in Tanzania for his racist rant.
But he was taking on a tough task with his predecessor Lehlohonolo Seema fired to make room for another coach, though there were question marks over whether the squad was good enough to begin with.
“We know the coach will always be the first to go, but will the chairman look at the quality of the squad? The same players seemingly cost Seema his job as well,” said a source close to the club and privy of Malesela’s imminent demise.
Despite booking a ticket in the semifinals of the Nedbank Cup, the Chilli Boys had only managed one win in nine league games.
With Eymael now cleared to coach in SA and missing out on the Baroka job, it’s likely Mpengesi will turn to the Belgian again.
