EPL Side Enter Zungu Race
Bongani Zungu Has Attracted The Interest Of Tottenham Hotspur
Talk of Bongani Zungu’s future has been heating up over the last couple of weeks, and now there is another English side believed to be in the running for his signature.
Zungu has had a fantastic 2017 for Vitoria de Guimaraes after breaking into Pedro Martins’ starting XI back in January, with teams across Europe now vying for his signature following his performances for the Portguese outfit.
His goal in the Taca de Portugal final against Benfica turned some more heads in Europe, and the Siya crew has previously reported that Benfica, Porto, Sporting Clube de Portugal, Mainz, Hoffenheim and, most recently, Sheffield Wednesday, had shown an interest.
The crew also revealed earlier this week that an unnamed English club had submitted a bumper bid of €6m (R87m) for the Bafana Bafana international in order to try and circumnavigate the strict UK work permit rules that are in place.
Zungu wouldn’t get a permit based on Bafana’s FIFA rankings position or his amount of national caps, however if the transfer fee and his wages are big enough then he might have a chance with the FA’s Exceptions Panel.
The latest news reaching the crew is that Premier League outfit, Tottenham Hotspur, could be considering a move for the 24-year-old having been watching him during his time with Guimaraes.
Spurs, along with Liverpool and West Ham, were made aware of the midfielder before he signed a precontract with Guimaraes in 2015, but were unwilling to make a move at that point given his lack of European experience.
It remains to be seen which club it was that submitted a €6m bid to his club, or whether they will accept it, but it certainly seems like the future is bright for one of Bafana’s most talented players.
The Portuguese media has reported that his side are eager to try and keep him, although the fact that his contract expires at the end of next season means that they run the risk of him signing a precontract in January and leaving for free.
