A sought-after Bidvest Wits defender has been tied down on a new contract at the club to fend off interest in him from some of the PSL's big guns.
Following months of negotiations, the Students have finally secured the future of Sifiso Hlanti who is one of the club's prized assets.
Hlanti has put pen to paper on a new and improved deal with the Sturrock Park outfit, as reported in the latest Soccer Laduma, edition 1085.
A number of clubs, including the PSL's big guns of Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates have been interested in the defender in recent seasons, following his impressive performances for Wits under coach Gavin Hunt.
As a result of his high work-rate and consistency, Hlanti has had his deal extended at the Clever Boys by two more years, as confirmed by Siya sources close to the Braamfontein-based club.
The 28-year-old left back’s deal with Wits was expected to expire in 2019, and with the new deal in place, the KwaZulu-Natal-born player will now be under contract until 2021.
“It is true that Sifiso Hlanti is one of the players that are on new deals at Wits. I have been told that he has signed a new two-year contract with an option for another year. The new deal will start in July next year, at the end of his existing deal, which will end in June,” said the source.
Hlanti is the reigning Players’ Player of the Season and Player of the Season at the club. He has played in both of Wits' matches so far this season, which ended in victories against Free State Stars and Kaizer Chiefs respectively.
