Pienaar Set For January Wits Exit

Bidvest Wits Could Let Steven Pienaar Go In January

By Soccer Laduma - Dec 21, 2017 02:35 PM
Steven Pienaar’s return to the Absa Premiership with Bidvest Wits looks to be short-lived, with the Clever Boys looking to release him in the January transfer window.

The 35-year-old has played 11 games for Wits since joining them at the start of the season, although he hasn’t made the impact that Gavin Hunt will have been hoping for from such an experienced player.

Pienaar’s return to South Africa after spending over a decade and a half playing in Europe was seen as a coup for the reigning league champions when he was announced, but he has been given just four starts and has been largely underwhelming.

Now, according to Siya sources, there is talk of ‘Schillo’ leaving Wits in the upcoming transfer window as they seek changes in order to turn around their season and climb their way up the table.

It remains to be seen whether Pienaar will be sold or whether the club will look to agree to a mutual termination if they do decide that he has become surplus to requirements.

@jerseynumber8 you raise an important point. Respect. I say it serves Wits right, they are paying him half a million to play walking football. that money could have been used to pay for 3 good hungry players. 2nd point: he is playing the same way he was while he was Bafana captain. back then he was not at a stage to earn the respect you say he deserves. he is not only a liability to the business but he is costing gavin hunt points. If you bring somebody and make him earn so much money,he must deliver or go be an analyist at S.Sport.
