Benni McCarthy is closing in on signing a midfielder to strengthen his squad at AmaZulu, the Siya crew has learnt.
According to sources, the Durban-based club is expected to finalise a deal with Cape Town City midfielder Zukile Kewuti, who has struggled for game-time under Jan Olde Riekerink with only one substitute appearance in the league this season.
McCarthy gave the 25-year-old his professional debut at the Mother City outfit and the Nyanga-born player grew in leaps and bounds under the renowned former Bafana Bafana international striker.
McCarthy, who recently recruited former City assistant coach Vasili Manousakis to join his technical team at Usuthu, wants to also reunite with Kewuti to strengthen his squad for the remainder of the season.
Kewuti is expected to reunite with Lehlohonolo Majoro, who was one of the first players to welcome him when he started his professional career at the Cape side, after impressing with his performances in the MultiChoice (now DStv) Diski Challenge.
At City, Kewuti competed with the likes of Thabo Nodada, Mduduzi Mdantsane and Thato Mokeke, who are all regulars in the team, and has found the going tough with breaking into the starting line-ups.
