Bafana To Turn Down Thai Invite?

Bafana Bafana likely to decline invite to international tournament.

By Mkhize - Feb 15, 2018 11:24 AM

Soccer Laduma have been informed that the South African Football Association (SAFA) are likely to turn down an invite to compete in the 2018 King’s Cup in Thailand.

The Siya crew reported earlier in the week that the FA had received an invite for the senior men’s national team, Bafana Bafana, to compete in the Kings Cup in Thailand which will be taking place in Bangkok next month.

Though the likes of Gabon, Slovakia and the United Arab Emirates are all said to have been confirmed for this year’s edition of the tournament, a reliable Siya source has confirmed that it is unlikely that Bafana will be heading to Thailand to participate in the tournament.

“The objective of SAFA is to ensure that Bafana Bafana need to play highly ranked opposition and thus playing in this competition does not fulfil that mandate,” said the source.

“Since the tournament itself is not an official FIFA event participating teams are not obliged to bring their full strength squads meaning that the teams will likely be not at their full strengths,” added the Siya source.

Meanwhile, Bafana will be resuming their 2019 AFCON qualifiers in September this year.

@ZZ2 vs Papa charles Rugby & Cricket doing well?? Springboks lying 5th in a small sport with only 10 proper test playing nations. Proteas have today lost their 7th game out of 8 against India (on home-soil nogal) and cricket also a small sport by the way. AND what has white coaches (with the exception of DOG) brought Bafana...........DOLOLO

@NHLANHLA1 Eish my man, these SAFA guys they killing us. These are types of tournaments to be used for trialling combinations of Tau's with the Mahlambi's the Moons and rest of our promising younger players. These short term tournaments are very good for preparations. People forget to mention that before winning AFCON 96 we had an annual 4 nations cup which I believe help us a lot.

what ??? how can we turn down the invite as if we are a excellent country, we are a mediocre nation in teams of football so we have to honor de invite. Problem with us we wnt to start big and become a force to reckon. we need to start by whipping dis small team and building towards the bigger games with winning mentality
