Aubrey Ngoma Injury: Mamelodi Sundowns To Go In For Kaizer Chiefs Winger, Or Mekoa?
Mamelodi Sundowns could look to pounce on the services of a Kaizer Chiefs winger after their transfer target, Aubrey Ngoma, underwent surgery to his knee yesterday.
The 27-year-old Cape Town City winger was released from Head Coach Stuart Baxter’s COSAFA setup, after sustaining an injury to his knee while on duty for the South African national team.
It was confirmed yesterday that the player underwent surgery and could possibly face up to three months on the sidelines.
Sundowns’ interest in the City winger has been no secret ever since Chairman John Comitis’ released a strongly worded statement to the football fraternity saying that Pitso Mosimane allegedly approached Ngoma for his services without the Mother City-based club’s permission.
However, despite Comitis’ statement, the Chlookop-based club have not given up on their interest in trying to land the player’s services.
Although, the player’s latest injury could lead Mosimane to focus his attention elsewhere as he cannot afford to have a player on the mend while Sundowns are competing both domestically and on the continent.
Masandawana could look to escalate their interest in Chiefs’ George Lebese or reignite talks and negotiations for Maritzburg United’s Deolin Mekoa.
Lebese, who has been linked to Sundowns in the past, will see his contract with Amakhosi expire at the end of the 2017/18 season, while Mekoa is believed to be looking to take the next step of his professional football career away from the Team of Choice.
Now, it remains to be seen who the Brazilians will look to pursue in the current July/August transfer window.
