Ajax To Promote Matthews?
Ajax Cape Town To Promote Youngster Tashreeq Matthews
News reaching the Siya crew is that Ajax Cape Town are expected to promote young talent, Tashreeq Matthews, to their first team.
The rising star’s future has been up in the air of late, with negotiations between the club and the player’s representative, Lance Davids, taking place behind the scenes. As reported by the Siya crew in recent times, the 17-year-old attacker’s camp had been disputing the club’s bursary system, which is part of their youth system.
Matthews subsequently surfaced at Cape Town City where he was spotted training under the mentorship of Benni McCarthy.
It seems as though the South African youth international has now come to an agreement with Ajax and is set to sign a pro PSL contract. According to Siya sources, the two parties have agreed to terms and the young attacker will be turning out for Coach Muhsin Ertugral for the rest of the season.
The striker was spotted training with Ajax today, and indications are that he will be roped into the first team setup sooner rather than later.
Matthews, who was touted as one of Mzansi’s most talented youngsters, has been linked with a move to Europe in the past, and while he will be turning out in the PSL, it remains to be seen if a move abroad does indeed materialise in the future.
Ajax CEO, Ari Efstathiou, would not comment on the matter when contacted. “I have no comment,” is all Efstathiou stated, while Davids opted not to comment on the player’s immediate future.
