Mamelodi Sundowns completed another big-name signing ahead of the new season and Soccer Laduma takes a look at how many high-profile signings the Brazilians have pulled off in the past two seasons.
Sundowns confirmed the signing of Jali on Friday, June 08, edging both Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs to the player’s services.
Sundowns were interested in Brockie for several months, with Orlando Pirates and Chiefs also believed to be keen on the player’s services. SuperSport United, on the other hand, were determined to hold on to the player’s services, although finally accepted an offer for the New Zealand international in the January transfer window this year.
Sundowns were believed to be in a race with Kaizer Chiefs to sign Vilakazi from Bidvest Wits although it was the Brazilians who concluded negotiations. Vilakazi’s move to the Chloorkop-based club was believed to have involved cash and two players, Cuthbert Malajila and Mokagolodi Ngele on loan to the Students.
Despite the player unable to establish regular game-time since his move to Masandawana during the January transfer window, the Brazilians were eyeing the player for several months and even had two offers for his services rejected in the 2017 July/August transfer window.
Cape Town City finally accepted an offer for the player, which was believed to be around R8 million.
The Mamelodi-born winger is yet to find his feet at the Chloorkop-based club although the player’s move to Sundowns was of much speculation prior to him putting pen to paper.
Head Coach Pitso Mosimane was believed to be an admirer of the former Kaizer Chiefs’ player’s trade for quite some time before a deal was concluded.
Coetzee is yet to play his first game in the Ka Bo Yellow colours, however, the Chrlookop-based club was linked with the player’s signature for several months until Ajax Cape Town finally accepted an offer from the Brazilians.
