In the third instalment of the key battles likely to materialise in the Carling Black Label Cup this afternoon, we take a look at the match-up between Orlando Pirates winger, Thabo Rakhale, and Kaizer Chiefs defender, Tsepo Masilela.
Rakhale has been in fine form for the Buccaneers in recent weeks, notably scoring a delightful chip against Tunisian side CS Sfaxien in their CAF Confederation Cup victory last Sunday.
The 25-year-old’s rise has been stellar, quickly establishing himself as a firm fan favourite. Testament to this is the fact that he picked up the most CBL Cup votes for any outfield player of both teams.
The right winger only broke into the Pirates team towards the second half of last season, making 16 appearances as a substitute and three starts in the league.
Rakhale will have his work cut out for him this weekend when he goes up against the highly experienced Masilela.
The 30-year-old has 51 Bafana Bafana caps to his name and has plied his trade overseas at the likes of Maccabi Haifa and Getafe. He was an ever present at left back for the Amakhosi last season, starting 28 league games.
Considering Masilela is still undergoing pre-season preparations and Rakhale seems to be in full flight it will be interesting to see if the left-back will be able to keep the tricky winger at bay.
Let us know your thoughts, who do you think will come out tops in this important battle?
