Kaizer Chiefs coach, Steve Komphela, is happy with how his side’s pre-season preparations have gone but is aware that there is still more to be done ahead of the upcoming campaign.
Komphela has big shoes to fill after Stuart Baxter left the Amakhosi at the end of last season having guided them to the league title and MTN8 Cup.
The new Chiefs coach is happy with how his side’s preparations have gone ahead of their final pre-season test against Orlando Pirates in the CBL Cup today.
“The preparations for the new season have been going very well. As a team we want to continue playing the entertaining, attacking Chiefs football. One good thing is that the players are open and interested to engage in the kind of football that we plan to play as a team,” Komphela said.
“We are continuing with the same direction that the team took last season and though there is still a lot to be done, we are happy that the preparations have been going very well. The players are responding positively to what we have been doing in the pre-season camp and training, including friendly games. Everything is on the right track at the moment,” he added.
Chiefs begin their 2015/16 campaign by looking to defend their MTN8 trophy against Komphela’s former charges Maritzburg United in the quarter-finals on August 5.
Four days later, they travel to the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium to play Chippa United as they embark on their quest to retain their PSL crown.
