Former Captain Questions Attitude Of Bafana Players

Former Bafana Bafana captain Siphiwe Mkhonza has criticised the attitude of the current South Africa internationals after the disappointing 0-0 draw against Libya.

Mkhonza himself represented Bafana during his active days and is now involved in the Shield South Africa campaign with Premier League side Chelsea and ABSA Premiership side Orlando Pirates.

During the announcement of the three South African talents, who will be going to Chelsea to train their state-of-the-art training facilities this week, Mkhonza has questioned the attitude of Bafana’s current players.

“The Bafana situation worries me, because I think there is no progression. I have been very critical with the players. I think for me the attitude towards wearing the jersey is not good. I believe if we can improve our attitude with regards to representing the country then we can win,” Mkhonza told Soccer Laduma.

“Even the coach can bring all the tactics that he wants, he can bring all the modern trends of how the team needs to train, but I have always said that attitude determines where you go. Our players need to sort out themselves regardless of the situation surrounding them. Our players only want to perform when it is comfortable for them.

“And we have seen other countries, when they represent their country they go all out. It shows the true meaning of why they are representing their country. They want to do it for everybody, not just to represent yourself, but the whole nation in general.”

Mkhonza himself has risen above his circumstances after living on the streets during his upbringing to donning the Bafana shirt later in his career.

Do you agree with Mkhonza that the attitude of Bafana’s players need to improve? Have your say in the comments section below.
