Pitso Admits Castro/Billiat Chiefs Dominance

With the partnership between Leonardo Castro and Khama Billiat taking football fans down the ‘CBD’ memory lane, their former coach also couldn’t help but marvel at how clinical they were on Saturday afternoon.

Castro and Billiat, along with Keagan Dolly, were given the nickname by Mamelodi Sundowns supporters during their spell together at Chloorkop, which culminated in the club winning both the Absa Premiership and CAF Champions League in 2016.

Since then, Castro and Billiat are now Chiefs players, with Dolly moving to France – and the two locally-based forwards tormented Pitso Mosimane at the weekend.

Chiefs walloped Downs 4-2 in the Shell Helix Ultra Cup at FNB Stadium, Castro scoring a hat-trick, while Billiat got the other one, including assists for all three of Castro’s goals in the first half of the mid-season friendly.

“They were clinical in the first half and they did the job. We lost to a strong team, hard running and powerful – the CBD was on fire, it reminds me of my days with them. They came back to bite me,” Mosimane told journalists after the game.

“It’s good to see them (Castro and Billiat) play like this because that is what they are. We struggled in midfield because we allowed the passes behind us. We played a high line and we opened the spaces between the keeper and our back four – and the damage was done. But football is about learning and we corrected the tactics at half time. We gave everyone a chance to play because we did the same last year and won.”
