Why Chiefs ‘Need A Team, Not A Squad’…
It’s all eyes on FNB Stadium for Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns fans this weekend as giants lock horns, and one Amakhosi man thinks the clash is an important one.
Willard Katsande has featured in four of Chiefs’ eight Absa Premiership games so far this season under Ernst Middendorp, and is expected to play some sort of role in the Shell Helix Ultra Cup tomorrow afternoon.
The experienced Zimbabwean may have seen his game-time drop since the 2019/20 campaign began, but he knows that there is a long season ahead that will see the Glamour Boys use their whole squad as the table-toppers look to finally end their long trophy-drought.
Katsande, 33, told the club’s official website this week, “This is the chance of some of the other guys to feature. The season is very long, and we will need everyone at some time. It is good that the guys will get to play in a game like this season against a strong team.
“Like I said we need a team not a squad. it is good for some of the guys to get game time in their legs and when duty calls you do your best and try to take the team to the next level, in front of a big crowd it is the best way to test yourself. Over time you will get injuries and we will need to draw on the entire squad that is why games like this are important.”
Chiefs and Sundowns lock horns at 16h00 tomorrow as Masandawana look to retain their title after clinching the inaugural trophy last year.
