The KwaZulu-Natal Government has pledged their support to Premier Soccer League clubs and asked for a trophy in return, come end of the season.
KZN is one of the well-represented provinces in the PSL with six teams in total, three in the DStv Premiership in AmaZulu FC, Golden Arrows and Maritzburg United, while the GladAfrica Championship have three representatives in Richards Bay FC, Royal AM and Uthongathi FC.
Last season the Province saw KZN sides challenge for both Premiership and second division, with Usuthu qualifying the CAF Champions League after finishing in second place, while Abafana Bes'thende finished in the fourth position, and both teams qualified for MTN8.
In the GladAfrica Championship, Royal AM and Richards Bay challenged for automatic promotion but unfortunately, could not get into the finish line. The provincial government has since made a decision to reward all teams with the necessary financial support
During the launch of the KZN Premier's Cup, the KZN MEC of Sport, Hlengiwe Mavimbela confirmed that as government, they will give each club R580 000 to prepare for the upcoming season and pleaded with the clubs to bring at least one trophy to the province.
