Having got back into the team and back among the goals, Kaizer Chiefs’ Samir Nurkovic has admitted that it has been a frustrating time for him on the sidelines this month.
Nurkovic has made an immediate impact with the Glamour Boys since joining the club at the start of the season, becoming a regular under Ernst Middendorp before a head injury against AmaZulu meant that he was forced to miss their last two Absa Premiership matches.
But the 27-year-old returned to play hero against Cape Town City last weekend as he grabbed a late equaliser before their penalty shootout victory in the Telkom Knockout, and he’s in contention to get his starting berth back when the Amakhosi go into battle with Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday.
Speaking to Chiefs’ official website about returning to the side, the former KFC Komarno striker said, “It was a wonderful feeling to come back and score. I was out for three weeks and it was a challenging time for me. I just could not wait to get back onto the pitch and help the team as much as possible. I am happy to have contributed with a goal against City.
“It was frustrating because it was a head injury. You feel good because you can run and do everything except play because I could not head the ball. I am happy now because that is behind me. I am back now, which is what is important.”
Now, as they turn their attentions to arguably the strongest team in the country, the Serbian thinks that the Glamour Boys have already proven themselves this season, saying, “I believe we have played a number of big games already and we will be ready for this match… Our two games against a good team like Cape Town City were tough games. For me every opponent is the same, not the same tactically or technically but they all good teams, and we need to prepare for them with the same intensity.
“We need to carry on doing things the way we have which has worked for us. We have respected every opponent and prepared well for each game and this game will be no different”.
Chiefs and Sundowns face off at Loftus Versfeld Stadium at 15h00 tomorrow afternoon.
