R116m?! - The 12 Most Valuable South African Footballers In The World…

South Africa has been exporting more players every year of late, with Mamelodi Sundowns the main supplier to Europe, but who are the most valuable South Africans in world football?

Take a look at the Rand value of South Africa's 12 most valuable in the gallery above!

Using the German website, Transfermarkt.com, Soccer Laduma took a look at South Africa’s top players around the globe to see which players have the biggest total market value right now, and the first Absa Premiership player is quite a way down the list.

The Big-Money Stars

At present, there are just two South African players with a value of more than £3,000,000, and both of them happen to be plying their trade in the same league currently.

Young Lebo Mothiba, who fired Strasbourg to the Coupe de la Ligue final recently, is the most valuable Bafana player in the world according to the website, with the 23-year-old valued at £6.3m. He is followed by former Sundowns man, Bongani Zungu, with the Amiens man rated at £3.15m.

There are a couple of players – Percy Tau and Kamohelo Mokotjo – who are above the £2m mark, and all of the top seven most valuable are at European clubs presently as they make their way up the footballing ladder overseas.

Where’s The PSL?

You have to go down to eighth to see the first South African player on the list of the country’s most valuable, with Sundowns’ Andile Jali currently the most expensive locally based star from Mzansi at £1.17m, though he is closely followed by three others from the Absa Premiership.

Itumeleng Khune, Thulani Hlatshwayo and Thapelo Morena all find themselves valued at £1.13m, and are flying the flag among the South Africans that are worth more than £1m in global football right now.

Position Of Power?

Of the top 12 most valuable stars from Mzansi according to Transfermarkt, the most common position is central/defensive midfield, with the likes of Zungu, Mokotjo, Thulani Serero, Lebogang Phiri and Andile Jali making the cut, while there are only two strikers, two wingers and one goalkeeper in there.

Hlatshwayo and Morena are the only players who are classed as defenders, however, of late, the Sundowns man has been moved further up the field and even played as an attacker for Pitso Mosimane.
