Where Is Tau? Bafana Star Missing For Union Annihilation
Percy Tau was nowhere to be seen this weekend as Royale Union Saint-Gilloise smashed five past their opponents, but why wasn’t the Bafana Bafana star out on the field?
The 24-year-old, who is on loan with RUSG from Brighton & Hove Albion in England, has had a very solid first campaign in Europe, grabbing 10 goals and nine assists in all competitions for the Belgian Proximus League outfit.
His side find themselves in a rich vein of form having gone into the UEFA Europa League playoffs this month, and have won their last five games on the bounce – conceding just twice along the way – as they look to get through to the UEL next season.
Tau, however, didn’t feature in the 5-1 victory over Waasland-Beveren yesterday, just a few days after he was also missing from their 2-0 win against Royal Excel Mouscron, though no word was given with regards to why he was not there.
Now though, it has been revealed by RUSG on their official website that Tau is dealing with a ‘slight strain’, and for that reason was left out of the matchday squad for this weekend.
There is some good news though for head coach, Luka Elsner, who explained that ‘in the least good case, he will be OK for the next match’ when they go up against Darren Keet’s former club, KV Kortrijk, as they look to maintain top spot in their group.
Tau will now have around a week to recover and get himself back to full fitness before that game, and Elsner will be keen to see him come in and add to their already firing attacking force.
