Just one month after signing for a new club in Europe, this South African could star in a UEFA Champions League quarter final.
Back in July, Banyana Banyana captain, Janine van Wyk joined a host of her compatriots in making a European move after she signed a one-year deal with Scottish Champions, Glascow City.
“Not many players get to play in the UEFA Champions League and I am hoping that I get this opportunity with my new club. It will honestly be a huge achievement for me. I am really looking forward to it,” she said shortly after making the move.
Now, Van Wyk and her new teammates are set to face German outfit, Wolfsburg for a spot in semi-final at the Anueta Stadium in Spain.
Van Wyk’s Glasgow City reached the quarter-final after defeating Czech team Chertanovo Moscow in the round of 32 with a 5-1 win. While in the round of 16, Glasgow narrowly overcame Danish side, Brondby on penalties, after the match ended 2-2.
The other quarter final clashes see FC Barcelona take on Atletico Madrid, while Lyon and PSG take on Bayern Munich and Arsenal respectively.
The game will be played at Anoeta Stadium in San Sebastián, Spain on August 21. Kick-off is at 18:00 CAT.
