News reaching the Siya crew is that one of SA’s young sensations has had two bids tabled for his services in Europe!
It has been widely reported that 20-year-old Tashreeq Matthews recently attracted interest in both Sweden and Denmark as he continues his purple patch since joining Varbergs BoIS last year on the back of a stint at Borussia Dortmund.
And the numbers don’t lie…
Matthews mostly played development football while in Germany before his move to the Swedish topflight, and naturally he would have needed time to adjust, although he was still able to make an impressive 21 appearances in all competitions.
Now, the Siya crew has been led to believe that interest is mounting in Denmark with two clubs understood to have put in offers at Varbergs.
In his second season, the winger has scored four goals in 13 games, plus added three assists as well.
The Allsvenskan league has just recently gone past the halfway mark, so at this rate Matthews is on course to improve on his maiden campaign.
Approached for comment on the latest developments, his agent Lance Davids would not give too much away on the player’s rumoured move.
“I am not surprised. You could see that when he first arrived there, he needed time to settle and get to know his teammates a little bit,” the former Bafana Bafana star told the Siya crew.
“But now he is one of the best players at the club and I think it’s expected that there would be interest in him. He does still have a contract with Varbergs, but you can see what happens when the player adapts. And at his age, there’s still a lot more to come.”
The tricky part with this potential transfer, however, is that the Swedish transfer window closes next week on August 11 – so the interested suitors are in a race against time!
