Keagan Dolly’s future at Montpellier is back in focus following a decision reportedly taken by his French Ligue 1 club earlier this week.
The local media in France claimed that coach Michel der Zakarian would be stepping down at the end of the season, which is when his contract expires and there has been no breakthrough in talks to extend his stay.
Montpellier players have already been informed of this outcome, the report stated further.
Now, given that Dolly is also in the final months of his contract at the club, Siya sources have informed the crew that his future will also be discussed.
These sort of negotiations could go either way, but Zakarian’s departure could be a lifeline for Dolly, who has only been used sparingly by the coach, although the Bafana Bafana star has consistently been picked for the matchday squad.
He did get a cameo of 26 minutes on Wednesday in Montpellier’s 2-1 defeat at home against Saint Etienne having only been an unused substitute in previous matches.
It’s understood Dolly is keen to stay in Europe given that he has made a life for himself there and his fiancé is expecting their first born child.
But the 28-year-old attacker would not turn down a lucrative offer to return home if, for instance his former side Mamelodi Sundowns or any of the Big Three outfits suddenly show interest in luring him back to the Premier Soccer League.
The Siya crew has also previously reported that Al Ahly, now coached by his ex-coach Pitso Mosimane, recently reignited their interest in Dolly.
Given that he could very well be a free agent come June 30, this opens the door for a number of possibilities for the player in considering where he wants to be next season.
