The plaudits keep coming in for Bafana Bafana midfielder Thulani Serero who has received a major honour for his club Al Jazira FC, who recently held their end of season awards.
Serero played a pivotal part in the Abu Dhabi-based side’s league triumph in the 2020/21 season.
The deep-lying midfielder played 26 times in all competitions for coach Marcel Kaiser’s team, setting up three assists from the heart of midfield as his side cruised to league glory.
As a reward for his efforts, the Soweto-born man, affectionately nicknamed ‘Cream’ was awarded as the club’s best foreigner for the season.
“Mr Consistent Keycap 10/10 in recognition of a stunning season, Thulani Serero is your @parkrotana Foreign Player of the Season first place medal,” his club posted on social media.
Since moving to the UAE from the Netherlands, where he joined Al Jazira from Vitesse two seasons ago, not only has the 31-year-old excelled in his new role as a defensive midfielder, but he has often been regarded as one of the best players in the oil-rich league, something he has blown off.
The midfielder also recently penned a new three-year deal, that will keep him at the club until the 2023 season and it appears that there is no slowing down for the former Ajax Amsterdam man.
Serero is amongst the most valuable players in Mzansi:
