Not since Steven Pienaar last featured for Sunderland in the English Premiership in 2017, has there been a South African in the English Premier League. Now six players, including Percy Tau, could possibly put Mzansi on the map in the most competitive league in the world.
Last week the Siya crew reported that there was hope that Tau could finally feature for Brighton & Hove Albion. This comes after work permit regulations in the UK were eased following Brexit.
Brighton have inserted a clause in Tau’s contract that could see him join the Seagulls in January, following his loan spell in Belgium with Anderlecht.
Tau is not the only player who could feature in the EPL this season. After clubs released their official squad lists for the 2020/21 season, five youngsters who are eligible to play for South Africa, are amongst the registered players this season.
Khanya Leshabela (Leicester City) Bradley Cross (Newcastle United), Max McMillan (Leeds United), Kgaogelo Chauke (Southampton) and Nikola Tavarez (Crystal Palace), could all potentially make their debuts in the Premier League this season.
These players could follow in the footsteps of Pienaar, Benni McCarthy, Aaron Mokoena, Shaun Bartlett and Lucas Radebe who have previously plied their trade in the EPL.
