Confirmed: SA Starlet Joins Ex-Barca/United Striker In Sweden
Tashreeq Matthews will get to learn from the best this season after completing a switch to Sweden that will see him play under the guidance of a legendary striker.
The Siya crew recently reported that Matthews, who is still just 18, was wanted by Helsingborgs IF in the Swedish top-flight as he looks to take the step up into senior football. His move to the club has now been confirmed.
Matthews will be working under former Barcelona and Manchester United man, Henrik Larsson, after completing a season-long loan to the Allsvenskan, and has spoken of his happiness at joining HIF until the end of their season.
Speaking to the club’s official website after sealing his deal, the teenager said, “I feel welcome and it feels very good to be here. The fans have to decide for themselves what kind of player I am. I still have a lot to learn but what I can say is that I am here to do my best and help the club.”
Meanwhile, his new head coach added, “Tashreeq is a young, promising and creative player that we can borrow from BVB Dortmund at no cost. It will be a lot of fun to work with him.”
Matthews will be eager to impress over the coming week as he looks to get himself into Larsson’s plans for the clash with IFK Göteborg on Monday.
