Borussia Dortmund’s South African teenager, Tashreeq Matthews, is thought to be on the verge of joining a big club in Sweden as he takes the step into senior football.
Matthews, who is still 18-years-old, joined Dortmund last year after impressing during a training spell with the German giants, and went on to spend the second half of the season on loan with Utrecht in Holland.
Now, having put in the hard yards at youth level in Europe, the Siya crew has been led to believe that he’s attracted interest from Sweden, with Helsingborg thought to be interested having had a good relationship with South African players – most notably May Mahlangu – in the past.
The South African youth international got a handful of senior appearances under his belt in the Netherlands’ Eerste Divisie in 2019/20, and he will be eager to try and make the step up to first team football in Sweden’s top-flight if given the chance.
Helsingborg currently have legendary Swedish striker, Henrik Larsson, as their head coach, and the talented teen would no doubt learn a lot from the former Manchester United and Barcelona man if a move to HIF does materialise.
