The 32-year-old featured 70 minutes for Everton’s Under-21 side in a goalless draw against Manchester United’s youth team on Wednesday, which was his first run-out since mid December.
United’s side was filled with a couple of first team players like Rafael, Tyler Blackett and James Wilson, but Pienaar and the young Toffees held them to a 0-0 draw.
The game was Pienaar’s first competitive action in 2015 after he suffered from a knee injury since featuring in Everton’s 3-1 win against QPR on December 15.
Roberto Martinez will be delighted with Pienaar’s return after Everton only won 18 percent of their Premier League games (three out of 17) without the South African this season.
The skillful midfielder was not included in Everton’s Europe League squad for the last-32 tie with Young Boys Bern, but could make his first-team comeback against Leicester City on Sunday.
