Steven Gerrard has confirmed his Glasgow Rangers new signing Bongani Zungu will not be available to make his debut for the club this weekend.
Rangers take on Scottish Champions Celtic in a top-of-the-table clash on Saturday, however, Gerrard will have to make do without the services of Zungu, who is currently in quarantine.
Speaking in a pre-match press conference, the Liverpool legend revealed that he will be without the 28-year-old for at least 10 days due to COVID protocols.
"Bongani Zungu is currently in quarantine so we sadly won't see him for another 10 days or so. We have sorted him with gym equipment so he can train from home,” Gerrard told the media.
Zungu could possibly miss his side’s next two matches against Standard Líege and Livingstone, while he could make his debut for the Light Blues against Lech Poznan in the UEFA Europa League.
The Siya crew also reported that Zungu has until May next year to prove that he is worth his R77 million asking price.
Rangers have the option to make the former Mamelodi Sundowns man’s stay at Ibrox permanent, however they would have to fork out €4M (±R77M) for his services.
