Mokotjo Debuts In England, SA Striker On Target In France

Kamohelo Mokotjo made his debut for Brentford, as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United in their opening game of the Championship season.

The Bafana Bafana international started the game for Brentford, but was taken off after 59 minutes and replaced by Nico Yennaris as the Bees began the season with defeat.

Moving to League One, Kgosi Nthle made his first appearance for Rochdale in their 2-0 loss to Portsmouth on Saturday evening.


Lebogang Phiri got his Guingamp career off to a winning start, as they recorded a 3-1 win over Metz on Saturday evening.

The 22-year-old lasted the full 90 minutes on his debut for the Ligue 1 club, as they began the season with three points.

Elsehwere, Lebogang Mothiba scored his first goal of the season to lead Valenciennes to a 1-0 win over Chateauroux on Friday evening,

Mothiba struck the game's only goal in the 48th minute by heading home Tony Mauricio's cross.


Bongani Zungu's Vitoria Guimaraes missed out on the first piece of silverware this season, as they lost 3-1 to Benfica in the Portuguese Super Cup on Saturday evening.

Zungu started for the Portuguese outfit and played the full 90 minutes on Saturday evening, but was unable to help his side overcoome the Primeira Liga champions.

Moving to the second division, Luther Singh found the back of the net for Sporting Braga B, as they drew 1-1 with Uniao Madeira.


Thulani Serero made his official debut for Vitesse, as they suffered a 4-2 loss on penalties to Feyenoord in the Ducth Super Cup on Saturday afternoon.

Serero lasted the entire duration of regulation time and extra time, but did not take a spot-kick in the shoot-out.


Andile Jali lasted the full 90 minutes for KV Oostende, as they suffered a 1-0 loss to Anderlecht in a Belgian Pro League tie on Sunday evening.


Mihlali Mayambela netted his fourth goal of the campaign as Degerfors recorded a 3-0 win over Orgryte.

Mayambela rounded off the scoring for Degerfors in the 51st minute with a superb volley from 25-yards out.
