Steven Pienaar returned to the Sunderland starting line-up in their Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday evening.
The former Bafana Bafana captain was left out of the squad that lost to Everton on Monday night, but he was restored to the line-up against his old club.
Pienaar lasted 63 minutes, but squandered a glorious chance to score when he failed to hit the back of the net from six-yards with the goal at his mercy.
The 34-year-old's chance proved to be Sunderland's best chance of the game, as they went on to lose 1-0 to Spurs at White Hart Lane, a result which has left them in the relegation zone.
Pienaar has now made four appearances in all competitions since joining the Black Cats last month.
