South African midfielder Jeffrey Makoti is back in professional football, with a view to reviving his career.
Makoti, who has spent most of his career plying his trade at clubs in Turkey, has joined a new club this year. The former Maritzburg United and Mpumalanga Black Aces player has joined Akova in the Turkish First Division.
“I have been training with the team for the last two months. Things are looking good and I am joining the team for the second round of the season.
“Before joining the team, I had stopped playing professional football for two years. I have been studying and I recently got my degree and masters. I am going to enrol for my second degree because it is very important to have something to fall back on after one’s career in football is over,” said Makoti.
“I am now a qualified psychologist and I hope to be a role model to younger footballers. Having said that, I am very happy to be back doing what I like so much, which is playing football,” concluded the 36-year-old.
Makoti first went to Turkey in 2007 and has played for the likes of Bostanci Bagcil and Küçük Kaymakli over the years.
