A South African defender could be on course to achieve success in Spain by helping his club to promotion.
Former Free State Stars, Maritzburg United and Bloemfontein Celtic left-back Thabang Matuka, who is playing for CD Almunecar City in Spain, is in the team that is preparing for Sunday’s important match in their chase for promotion to the next division.
City will be playing in the play-off semi-final match against Churriana CF tomorrow as they look to move to the 5th tier of Spanish football.
“I came thus far not knowing what to expect, all I know for a fact is (that) there will be challenges and how I react will entirely depend on me. I envisioned myself in a position of contributing immensely to the club and put it in a better position than I found it,” Matuka wrote on his official Facebook account.
“Tomorrow night is the promotional playoffs semi-final that is very important for my career and (the) club’s history, a moment to cherish and that will open doors for many other young aspiring footballers,” he said, in part.
As reported by the Siya crew, the 30-year-old has been in talks with club director George Jermy about possibly juggling both his playing career and coaching in the team’s youth academy.
The Bloemfontein-born player says that already he has been the assistant coach of the U23 side since last year.
Having joined City in August last year, Matuka has been in talks with the club about the extension of his contract.
