SA-Born Defender Completes R340m German Switch
South African-born Defender, Panagiotis Retsos, Has Joined Bayer Leverkusen
South African-born defender, Panagiotis Retsos, has completed a move to Bayern Leverkusen in the German Bundesliga.
The 19-year-old defender has long been linked with a move away from Olympiacos after impressing despite his young age, and it has today been confirmed that he has joined the German outfit.
While Leverkusen has not yet confirmed the transfer fee, it is being reported that it is in the region of around €22m (R340m).
Bafana head coach, Stuart Baxter, had been hoping to persuade the player to turn out for South Africa on the international stage, however that chance seems to be gone after he was called up to the Greek national team recently and could make his debut next month.
He is now the most expensive South African-born player of all time.
