Thulani Serero got on the scoresheet to help Ajax Amsterdam to a 2-1 win over Kamohelo Mokotjo's PEC Zwolle.
Serero was recently released from the Bafana Bafana camp early for disciplinary reasons with Bafana coach Gordon Igesund saying that the player did not want to play against Botswana, and had tried to suggest that he was injured despite the team doctor saying otherwise.
Ajax Amsterdam then claimed that Serero was indeed injured, but it seems that the midfielder managed to quickly overcome the problem as he played the entire game against Zwolle and scored the opening goal in the 72nd minute.
A Maikel Van der Werff own goal doubled their tally before Giovanni Gravenbeek ensured a tense ending. Mokotjo has been in excellent form for Zwolle but could not inspire his side to secure a late draw as Serero won the day.
Bongani Khumalo started in defence for Doncaster Rovers as they played out a 0-0 draw away to Huddersfield Town. The Bafana Bafana centre-back returned fresh off of their 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier win over Botswana. His fellow South Africa international and club teammate Dean Furman settled for a place on the bench.
Tokelo Rantie, AFC Bournemouth's new record signing, was missing from the team after meeting up with his new side after international duty - where he started in Bafana's 4-1 win over Botswana. The Cherries lost 2-1 at home to Blackpool.
Kgosi Ntlhe, who has been a regular in the Peterborough defence in the English League One, had to be content with a place on the bench as the Posh smashed Bristol City 3-0 away from home.
In Russia Siyanda Xulu started in defence but couldn’t prevent his side from suffering a 1-0 loss away to CSKA Moscow while Sive Phekezela spent the day on the bench as Gefle beat Brommapojkarna.
Anele Ngcongca enjoyed a thumping 5-2 win over Zulte-Waregem with the South African defender playing out the entire match.
