One of South Africa’s overseas-based players is edging closer to making his big bow on Europe’s massive stage next season.
Gift Links could be playing in the Uefa Europa League when the 2020/21 campaign gets underway in the coming months if Aarhus GF, a club he joined almost a year ago from Cape Town City, keeps up their form.
The 21-year-old came off the bench with some nine minutes left on the clock when Aarhus beat FC Copenhagen 4-2 on Sunday to move to second place in the Super Liga championship round log table, a Europa qualifying round spot.
With two matches to go away at Nordsjaelland tomorrow night and at home to Brondby on Sunday, Links and his teammates could very well be celebrating a milestone.
Aarhus has not featured in neither the Champions nor Europa League since the 2012/13 season and will be motivated to make it to the qualifying round, at least.
Links had a slow start to life in the Danish top-flight, but was beginning to knock on the door for game-time before lockdown – and has carried on that momentum.
He has only been an unused substitute in just two of the 11 matches Aarhus has played since domestic football restarted.
