Bafana Bafana midfielder Thulani Serero played the full 90 minutes as his Ajax side drew 1-1 with FC Utrecht at the Nieuw Galgewaard on Sunday.
Serero’s side did open the scoring in the 25th minute through midfielder Daley Blind, whose fierce drive left Utrecht goalkeeper Robin Ruiter with no chance. The South African did put in a solid performance in the Ajax midfield but his side could not hold onto their lead. The hosts responded well and levelled matters in the 33rd minute, just eight minutes after Ajax’s opener through striker Steve De Ridder making sure that the home side earned a point.
South African forward Daylon Claasen put in a fine performance as his Lech Poznan beat Sparta Prague 2-1 and move up to fourth on the table. The South African was on hand to set-up Kasper Hamalainen for the opening goal, after a delightful cross which his teammate did well to head home past the Sparta shot-stopper. Claasen looked dangerous throughout the game and cause the Sparta defence all sorts of problems, and almost got on the score sheet but was unfortunate to be denied by the crossbar in the second-half.
