Following protracted contract negotiations, Pitso Mosimane’s future looks to be finalized in the coming days following the recent developments between the coach's camp and Al Ahly.
Mosimane’s future has brought about much speculation in recent times.
The 57-year-old, who has reportedly attracted a number of suitors both in the UAE and from the Senegalese national team, was set to see his contract with Al Ahly come to an end this year.
Both Mosimane and Al Ahly have publicly revealed their desire to continue their relationship, which has yielded many results over the last year and a half; however, reports coming out of Egypt have suggested that the two parties have failed to come to an agreement as to when the contract renewal would take place
Mosimane is keen on having his future sorted before the FIFA Club World Cup next month, while the club would prefer to make a decision after the tournament.
However, in a recent interview with the club’s TV Channel, Al Ahly’s sporting director Sayed Abdelhafiz confirmed that negotiations with Mosimane’s wife Moira Thlagale, who is also his agent, have been going well, with the matter expected to be wrapped up in the coming days.
“It is very likely that we will sign a new contract in January. I’d say it’s 90% done,” Abdelhafiz told Al Ahly TV.
According to the Al Ahly man, Mosimane staying put at the club will result in more trophies, which could include the Club World Cup next month.
“Mosimane staying means more trophies and achievements. The negotiations for his renewal are happening behind closed rooms between the club’s management and the coach. Al Ahly doesn’t lack anything to win the Club World Cup, we only lack success in the first and second rounds. Last season, we beat Al-Duhail, but we clashed with Bayern Munich in the semi-finals,” he added.
