Pitso Mosimane kept his exceptional unbeaten record as Al Ahly coach intact after guiding the Egyptian giants to a 4-1 victory over Entag El Harby in Cairo on Tuesday evening.
Mosimane made three changes to his starting line-up from the 2-0 league win over Ceramica in their previous fixture. Prior that, they had recorded an emphatic 5-0 aggregate victory over SONIDEP to qualify for the group stages of the CAF Champions League yet again.
The first golden opportunity of the game came for Mahmoud Kahraba who received a great pass from Aliou Dieng to go one-on-one before finding the side netting.
Kahraba continued to threaten Entag’s net with a couple of chances but he couldn’t find the goal despite his efforts.
Walter Bwalya missed the chance to score his first goal with his new club as he failed to find the net from very close range on the half-hour mark.
Shortly afterwards, Ali Maaloul's effort crashed against the crossbar as Mosimane's men came ever close to breaking the deadlock.
Maaloul finally opened the scoring for the hosts in the 48th minute after a fine move between Al Ahly players ending with Maaloul having a simple tap-in to the empty net.
Bwalya then got in behind for Al Ahly and was one-on-one with the keeper but ballooned the ball well over the bar.
Hussein El-Shahat doubled the lead in the 68th minute after he received a great pass from Akram Tawfik before dribbling past the defenders and finishing brilliantly into the net.
Walid Soliman added the third for the Red Devils in the 77th minute with a brilliant half volley to meet Akram Tawfik’s cross into the net
Basem Morsy scored a consolation goal for the visitors in the 84th minute before Soliman grabbed his brace three minutes later to restore the three-goal cushion and send Al Ahly top of the table level on points with Zamalek but boasting a superior goal difference.
